I am originally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia but left to serve in the military late 2001. I spent some time living in Quebec and Ontario and later decided to change things up and joined the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic which eventually led me to BC where I changed my specialty again to air weapon systems and bomb disposal. I loved it here so much I retired last year and currently live with my wife and 2 children in Campbell River, BC.

I am currently a student enrolled on the Web and Mobile Application Development Diploma Program.

I entered this program because I enjoy programming as a hobby and wanted learn something that gave me a creative outlet while taking advantage of how much I enjoy problem solving with code. I currently use a non objectoriented language to write stock trading algorithms to predict market movements and give an edge to stock traders for fun, but lack a lot of fundamental knowledge of web based services / social media /marketing and so much more that a formal education could teach me, so Im here and very excited!

This year my goals are to learn how to view projects from a business perspective, create better work flows, object oriented flavors of coding (I understand the basics of objects/inheritance/instantiating but lack how to wield them effectively) and most of all I want to know what its like to work with other programmers and work as a team!

As for my future goals, I want to learn more coding languages and how to deploy them effectively online. My jaw dropped when started reading about Ruby and looking at the syntax which seems nothing short of art. When I graduate I would like to get out there and create something, hopefully for money but I absolutely adore learning new things, so Ill also likely sign up for whatever the next step is in the evolution of web and mobile app design.
